Opex Chapter Meeting Sept'18

OPEX – Cairo Chapter (September 2018)

Supply Chain E2E Supply Chain Segmentation and Synchronization

As usual, Eng. Mohamed Hafez used his over 10 years of experience in the Supply Chain Field in reputable multinational companies and gave a simple yet hand- on- experience presentation on best Supply Chain Practices last Saturday 15th September 2018 for the OPEX Cairo Chapter Members.  Almost 20 persons attended the session, some experienced production managers and team leaders as well as fresh graduates and couple of undergraduates too.

He highlighted that for Effective Supply Chain, Strategy of Transformation must be existing in the organization. Strategy of the organization dictates how each department should set its KPIs and strive towards achieving the set objectives. In most of the companies, Planning, Purchasing and Logistics are workings in silos, however with the Supply Chain harmony is achieved and results of lesser cost, lead time and more customer satisfaction levels are obtained.

From his experience he highlighted the importance for each organization to segment its products into Strategic (S): which produces high profits or to enter a new market, High Priority Product(H); has stable share in the market and consistent demand for this product, Agile Products (A); which is responding to unexpected sudden demand and eliminate those products not causing profits or with lesser demand on.

Another key factor in supply chain is to support the company’s long term suppliers giving example of reducing the lead time by allocating the suppliers with a dedicated warehouse within the company premises and access to demand charts to effectively respond too.

Many real life examples and initiatives were discussed on Supply Chain Effective approach to increase companies’ profits and increase its agility to cope with the current economic changes. Supply Chain plays role in all stages of planning, manufacturing and setting the necessary operating strategies and ensures alignment and effective communication between parties involved whether internal or external.
